Since 2000, Dakota Bread has been turning out what the Detroit area considers the very best breads available. Our challah was voted "BEST BREAD" by Detroit News and "BEST CHALLAH" by the Jewish News. And Hour Magazine writes that Dakota is "A GREAT PLACE FOR BREAD."
Dakota Bread is owned by Friendship Circle, a non profit organization that provides assistance and support to 3,000 individuals with special needs and their families by providing recreational, social, educational and vocational programming. In addition to helping those in need, the Friendship Circle enriches its vast network of volunteers by enabling them to reap the rewards of selfless giving.
The Dakota Bread Trainee Program provides individuals with special needs the opportunity to work in an active bakery environment. Trainees are hired by the bakery as paid employees and receive on-the-job coaching and vocational training. Trainees learn from the staff with support from a job coach as needed. While on the job they develop and build strategies that allow them to be successful in the workplace, including social skills, work-related anxiety, planning and organizational skills, and functional job skills. Trainees that graduate from the program will be able to transfer their skills to a variety of workplaces to become successful employees.
Our passion for community, friendship and great food keeps our quality high and our customers coming back. So if you’re looking for great bread, “the best in Detroit,” some are saying— stop by Dakota Bread. And while you’re there, discover the rest of our great menu. The same care and quality run through it all.
